Q is an interactive music software. It controls BeOS's software synthesizer through a geek's favarite interface with a lot of volume knobs and blinking LEDs, very similar to ancient analog sequencer hardware.
Turning these knobs at random, you may encounter unforeseen fantastic melodies. Try it, and have fun!

[Quick Start]
Push the "Start/Stop" button, settled on the left-top corner of the Q's window, and 16 LEDs start blinking in turn. If you press the "Start/Stop" button again, all LEDs will go off except green one: it indicates the end of the sequence.
Turn one of the volume knobs below an array of these LEDs. Some sound will come on. As you turn the knob to the right, tone will be higher. Now, set this knob around the center and push the "Start/Stop" button over again. You can hear the sound when the LED above the knob you touched blinks. Try fumbling with other control knobs and popup menus, and Q will play an eccentric melody you have never heard.

[Explanations of Controls]

"Start/Stop" button: starts or stops the music sequence. This button only works when "Step/Single/Repeat" knob is set for "Single" at "Repeat".

"Step" button: plays one note of each channel below a lighting LED while it is pressed. When it is released, the next LED turns on. This button only works when "Step/Single/Repeat" knob is set at "Step".

"Clock" Knob: adjusts a tempo of the performance.

"Step/Single/Repeat" knob: sets playing mode.

The array of 16 LEDs: indicates playing notes by turning red, and the end of the sequence by turning green. You can change the end point by clicking the one of the LEDs.

Midi parameter knobs: makes 3 horizontal arrays of 16 volumes. The top array keeps 16 steps of midi parameters of channnel A. The middle and the bottom also keep the data of channnel B and C, respectively.

"Ctrl x" knob: adds some modulation selected by "Controls" popup menu to channnel x.

"Duty" knob: determines cutoff timing of notes. If it is full, Q plays all notes tenuto/legato.
As you turn it to the left, notes become staccato. Near 0, it will be quiet.
